Janzour militia clashes cause damage to Tripoli West power station

The waste collection and sorting and the organic composting station were inaugurated yesterday (13 June) in the Municipality of Janzour.

The project was inaugurated by Libyan Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Local Administration, Nasr Al-Mahout, and the Mayor of Janzour Municipality, Fathi Bin Issa,

in the presence of the European Union envoy to Libya, the German Deputy Ambassador, and the Director General of the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ Libya), in addition to representatives of the Solid and Liquid Waste Department and the International Cooperation Office at the Ministry of Local Government.‎

The Secretary-General stressed that the opening of the station comes within the framework of Libyan-German ‎‎cooperation within the projects of the third phase of the municipal support programme in Libya, implemented by GIZ and funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, which aims to support the waste management system and promote the circular economy in Libya.‎

‎He added that this new station will play an important role in improving the management of waste produced in the region, especially from the daily public vegetables, fruits and agricultural products markets in the municipality, with the aim of recycling these wastes and converting them into organic fertilizer to be used later in enhancing soil fertility, in addition to preserving the environment and promoting sustainability and the circular economy in the region.‎
