Speaking exclusively to Libya Herald, Siraj Al-Hamal, Spokesman at Libya’s Tripoli based Ministry of Transport, said that the Minister of Transport, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, discussed in a meeting at the Ministry’s Tripoli headquarters on Monday with Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, implementation progress at the new passenger terminal project at Tripoli International Airport.

They also discussed the difficulties facing the Italian consortium Aeneas, and ways to solve obstacles to completing the project at the agreed time.

Resumption of flights in both directions
Al-Hamal confirmed the request by the Minister of Transport to the Italian ambassador for the resumption of flights by Italian Airlines to Libyan airports and the resumption of flights by Afriqiyah Airlines to Italy in accordance with the outcomes of the recent meetings in Rome between the Libyan and Italian governments in Rome and the successive meetings between the competent authorities in the two countries.

Coastal Road
Additionally, they discussed the difficulties facing the implementation of the coastal road (Ras Jedir – Musaed) which the Ministry of Transport said is considered one of the most important outcomes of the 2008 Libyan-Italian agreement, worth $5 billion, paid by the Italian government to implement the project as soon as possible.

AENEAS and Tripoli International Airport terminal construction
In the same context, Al-Hamal said that the Director General of the Transportation Projects Implementation Agency, Sami Nasr Al-Abash, met last Monday, at the Ministry of Transportation’s office, with the AENEAS consortium implementing the new passenger lounge at Tripoli International Airport, in the presence of the Director of the Airport Projects Department, Omar Al-Akrami.
