The Libyan Iron and Steel Company achieved record HBI and DRI production in October 2023.
The Director of the Media Office at the Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO), Mohamed Al-Khamaria, said in an exclusive interview with Libya Herald that LISCO achieved records in iron production for the first time in the company’s history in October 2023.
He said the company’s third unit produced 70,000 tons of Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) last month.
Praising the efforts made by the company’s management, engineers and technicians working despite the obstacles that often hinder increasing production, he explained that 22 batches were made in one day in Steel Complex No. 2, operating on three electric furnaces, equivalent to the production of 1,760 tons of slabs, on two continuous casting machines, and in high quality.
Al-Khamaria explained that the LISCO has developed the iron complex’s factories as part of a plan to increase production expansion and development to meet the increasing demand for iron at home at good prices and high quality and export abroad.
DRI record production in 12 years
LISCO also reported Thursday that it had produced 102,223 tons of Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) in October, an increase in production of 123.78 percent. It informed that this production rate had not been achieved in 12 years.
