The Support and Development of Medical Services Agency will be holding the International Conference for the Localization of Treatment in Libya under the slogan ‘‘Restoration of Life by Localization of Treatment’’ in Tripoli from 12 – 13 June.
The agency says the event will include wide local and international participation, with a medical exhibition held on its side lines, several training workshops, and delicate and advanced therapeutic surgeries.
It invites all physicians, public and private health institutions, and those interested at home and abroad in participating and contributing to the therapeutic and training activities that will be held on the side lines of the conference, according to the published scientific programme.
It says the conference comes within the framework of the Aldabaiba’s programme for the localization and development of medical services in Libya and to provide the best and finest health services to citizens.
Why localise health treatment?
Libya has been trying to localise treatment since the Faiez Serraj government. But the weak state, militia wars and the war with Hafter restricted this policy. Most of the overseas health treatment budget was taken up treating the war injured. Treating the war injured was a very corrupt process with much embezzlement by Libyan intermediaries and the foreign health providers.
With major fighting over, the current Aldabaiba government has been able to make more progress with the localisation of treatment. Libya can get relatively more value for money from its health budget without the burden of treating war injured. More complex operations are being held locally with several foreign medical teams able to conduct work visits.
This enables more patients to receive more and better-quality treatment with the reduced cost and convenience of being in their homeland.
