The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Hwej, held a meeting at the Ministry’s Tripoli headquarters last Tuesday to discuss the mechanism for implementing the Cabinet’s decision (No. 493 of 2022) regarding the establishment of the Libyan Grain Bureau.

The Grain Bureau aims to provide the country’s grain needs on an ongoing basis, so that there is a strategic stockpile that covers the annual needs of the local market. It aims to support local grain production through local production tools, to achieve food security in addition to achieving balance and stability in the rates of quantities and prices.

At the conclusion of this meeting, the Minister stressed the need to intensify efforts to establish the Libyan Grain Bureau, with its organizational structure that serves the national interest, provided that periodic meetings continue to exchange proposals and work with the best options, in order to achieve the objectives of establishing this Bureau, pointing out in turn that the most important of these goals is to provide the needs of the Libyan state for grain as a permanent stock throughout the year.
