UNSMIL announced yesterday that it will facilitate a virtual meeting of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) on 11 August to consider the outcomes of the LPDF’s Proposals Bridging Committee and the next steps following the conclusion of the Committee’s deliberations that took place on 16, 27 and 30 July and on 2 August, resulting in four proposals for the constitutional basis for the elections on 24 December.
UNSMIL head Jan Kubis conveyed yesterday the four proposals of the constitutional basis developed by the LPDF’s Proposals Bridging Committee in a letter to the LPDF.
In his letter to the LPDF members, Kubis noted that the Committee had also reached an agreement on a voting mechanism and reiterated that “in considering any proposals, it is necessary to fully respect the requirement that none undermines your promise to the Libyan people to hold elections within the timeline set by your Roadmap.”
