The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) reported yesterday that it had facilitated a meeting, on the same day, of the Joint Technical Coordination Team on Border Security, hosted by the Tripoli based Ministry of Interior.

UNSMIL reported that the meeting brought together 45 military and security officers from across Libya, alongside personnel from the Joint Communication and Information-sharing Centres in Tripoli and Benghazi.

This meeting, it added, marks another significant step toward enhancing border security cooperation between eastern and western Libya; participants reviewed progress made in operationalizing the two Joint Centres and agreed to carry out joint field operations to secure the borders.

UNSMIL said the meeting followed a specialized training course held in Tripoli from October 4 to 7 for personnel from the Joint Centres, focusing on communications security and report writing. The course was organized in line with commitments made by the Army Chiefs of Staff to operationalize the Joint Centers and strengthen their capacity to perform their duties.
