London, 12 July 2021:
The Libyan parliament (the House of Representatives -HoR) started its session on the draft 2021 budget today.
However, the session will not be broadcast live, HoR Official Spokesperson Abdalla Belheeg said today.
It will be recalled that the HoR Budget Committee and the government have been holding ongoing talks in an attempt to reach a consensus on the budget.
On the face of it, its latest draft budget was rejected because:
- The government failed to breakdown spending in the development/projects chapter on a regional basis – as it had been requested.
- It failed to discard the unspecified ‘‘Emergency section’’ of the budget.
- The government was warned that if it fails to re-present its budget with the required amendments the HoR may pass its own version of the budget next week.
