A gradual return to land-based trade between Libya and Tunisia resumed today, the Ras Jdair border Security Directorate said. However, the process entails anti-Coronavirus infection measures.
The statement explained that trucks transporting goods from both countries are obliged to deliver their goods to a neutral ‘‘point zero’’ – without truck drivers meeting or crossing into the other country.
It will be recalled that Tunisia has been successful in controlling its Coronavirus outbreak and reopened air travel and its borders on 18 June. This contrasts with Libya’s whose cases have spiked from 50 to over 500 cases in a few weeks. With no sign of the reported cases subsiding, Libya recently extended its curfew and travel ban for another 10 days – until 27 June.
