Foreign intervention was frustrating progress toward a political solution, Beida government foreign minister Mohamed Dayri said in Moscow yesterday.
Dayri was paying his third public visit this year to the Russian capital, where he once again had talks with deputy foreign minister Mikhail Bogdanov. He told his host that Libya’s political, security and economic crisis was being prolonged by outside intervention.
The already-poor conditions in the country were being worsened by the threat of terrorism, the Beida-based LANA reported Dayri as warning.
Moscow’s report of the meeting said that Russia continued to back a broad intra-Libyan dialogue under the UN. It said that it was in contact with representatives of Libya’s different political forces.
Dayri’s Moscow trip comes a fortnight after Presidency Council (PC) foreign minister Mohamed Siala was in Russia to see Bogdanov’s chief, Sergei Lavrov.
However Bogdanov is president Vladimir Putin’s special representative for the Middle East and Africa. The Russian foreign ministry statement said that Bogdanov and Dayri had also discussed “ some practical aspects of Russian-Libyan relations” but did not explain what these were.
