Tunis, 21 November 2017:
Sirte mayor Mukhtar Al-Madani is still pressing the Presidency Council (PC) to come up with promised funds to help rebuild his shattered town.
In his fourth Tripoli meeting in 12 months with PC head Faeiz Serraj, Madani laid out Sirte’s most pressing problems and where there were bureaucratic bottlenecks that were holding up their solution.
Serraj issued immediate instructions to develop urgent solutions, said a PC statement. At the top of the list are families whose homes have been damaged and the repair of the water supply and sewerage system. Not far behind are schools, hospitals, roads and government buildings.
Madani has been a loud critic of the PC, saying the government has failed to deliver on pledged aid. This summer Serraj assured the mayor that LD10 million would be available for rebuilding schools. Only a small amount of this funding has so far been given.
