Germany’s GIZ Libya Programme reported yesterday that as part of the Libya Clean Expo, held last week at the Tripoli International Fairgrounds, the Support to Municipalities in Libya (SML3) Programme organised an onboarding and training session for the municipalities attending the event.
The session was designed and organised in collaboration with Germany’s University of Rostock. The university’s Professor Abdallah Nassour delivered a presentation on the basic principles of the circular economy, followed by an informative training and discussion on how to establish a municipal sustainable solid waste collection system.
GIZ informed that a well-organised waste collection system is the first crucial step in managing solid waste at the local level, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for all citizens. The following step is to focus on reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills by incorporating circular economy practices such as recycling, composting, and reusing materials.
Through SML3, GIZ Libya said it will continue its support for the 30 partner municipalities, working together to achieve tangible and lasting results across Libya – to build a cleaner, more sustainable future for Libya.
