Tripoli, 19 February 2017:

House of Representatives president Ageela Saleh flew from Algeria to Egypt to meet UNSMIL chief Martin Kobler in Alexandria today.  No statement was issued after their talks but the irrepressible Kobler later tweeted that the discussions had been “constructive” and dwelt on “concrete” next steps in resolving the paralysis over the Libyan Political Agreement

Saleh had been in Algiers on Saturday with a group of HoR members for discussions with Abdelkader Messahel, Algeria’s Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League.  It is likely that Saleh was pressed for his view on what changes to the LPA would be acceptable in the east and could command support in the parliament. After his talks with Saleh, Messahel was due to fly to Tunis for his meeting with the Egyptian and Tunisian foreign ministers.
