Tripoli, 26 November 2016:
The man accused of being behind the murder of Sheikh Nadir Al-Omrani has said he never met nor even saw the cleric. Denying any involvement, Abdulhakim Maghidesh, the head of the Esbiaa branch of the RADA (Deterrence) force put out an audio statement in which he pointed out that he was still in Tripoli and had not run away.
Maghidesh has been named as an accomplice by Haitham Al-Zintani in a videoed interview with Tripoli’s Criminal Investigation Board (CIB). Zintani, who is said to be part of RADA, explained that Omrani had been put in a hole in ground, accused of giving false religious teachings and then shot before being buried.
Maghidesh denied anything to do with the murder. He said that investigators had removed key CCTV recordings which would have proved his innocence, which would indeed, he said, have shown that he was nowhere near the scene of the crime.
