London, 6 September 2016:
The U.S. Africa Command (Africom) reports that the number of airstrikes it has conducted as part of its Operation Odyssey Lightning against ISIS in Sirte up to 31 August had reached 108.
In its latest report, Africom said that the following four main groups of targets were struck by U.S. forces on Aug 31:
- Three enemy fighting positions
- One Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device
- One Weapons Cache
- Two enemy fighting positions
These airstrikes in Libya are part of the US’s wider operations against ISIS that commenced on 1st August in Sirte as part of the US’s support to the Faiez Serraj-led Presidency Council/Government of National Accord in Tripoli.
The latest US revelations of airstrikes in Sirte against ISIS come as the Presidency Council/Government of National Accord (PC/GNA) affiliated Bunyan Marsous forces continue to battle the remnants of ISIS in Sirte. The ISIS forces are now reported by Bunyan Marsous as being confined to a small coastal area of Sirte.
