The lawlessness gripping Sebha has extended to the plundering of the town’s airport. A large generator was stolen from outside the main building. Five days ago computers and printers were also taken.
An official at the airport complained that this was not the first time that the airport had been raided by thieves. The original use of the stolen computer equipment is unclear but without the emergency generator, the airport is now at the mercy of frequent and extensive power cut in the town.
The airport has been closed for over a year and a half because of its proximity to areas where there have been clashes, and the security of aircraft cannot be guaranteed. Instead the military airbase at Tamenhint is used,
