Benghazi, 7 August 2016:
Benghazi morgues are now completely full and bodies are being left outside in the sun because there is no more room to store them.
In an emergency move, the Libyan Red Crescent today undertook the gruesome task of burying the bodies of 47 individuals who have laid unidentified in the morgue at Benghazi Medical Centre for over a year.
Nevertheless the pressure of refrigerated space continues unabated and some bodies are reportedly being left outside because they can be put nowhere else.
Some of the corpses were recovered badly mutilated from the battlefield. However, not all of the dead were victims of the fighting which continues to rage around Gwarsha and Ganfouda. They also include victims of natural deaths whose bodies have not been claimed.
A local judge gave the Red Crescent special clearance to go ahead with the burials, even though the bodies had not been identified.
