Tripoli, 11 August 2016:
To mark the fifth anniversary of their expulsion from their home town by Misratan forces, Tawerghan refugees demonstrated today in both Tripoli and Benghazi.
Despite repeated attempts, notably by UNSMIL, to broker a settlement with Misrata that would enable the Tawerghans to return home, they remain forced to live in squalid conditions in camps across Libya, and at the mercy of gunmen still wanting revenge for the town’s support for the Qaddafi regime during the revolution.
In Misrata, itself, there remains a powerful lobby determined that the Tawerghans must never be allowed back to their town.
