Benghazi, 6 July 2016:

At least three soldiers died and one was seriously injured when militants in Ganfouda launched an attack in the early hours of the first day of Eid.

The assault was along Teachers’ Beach to the south-west of Ganfouda, the coastal resort to which IS and Ansar Al-Sharia terrorists along, with their Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council allies, have retreated.

It appears that the army’s 309 Brigade was unprepared for the attack, which went in at 8am. The militants managed to punch a route through their encirclement.

Army sources later claimed that Teachers’ Beach has been retaken. However, it is unclear if the militants who launched the original assault had been able to press on and escape.

There are reports that in the fighting, the army managed the capture a terrorist commander. No name has yet been given for the man, who is said to be an Iraqi.
