Benghazi, 7 July 2017:
A large quantity of old foodstuffs has been destroyed by the health authorities in Benghazi by being bulldozed into a rubbish dump.
The six containers (TEUs) of food had been stuck in the sheds of Ganfouda customs compound since the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council and their IS and Ansar Al-Sharia terrorist allies established themselves in that part of the city in 2014.
Health administrators this week finally found time to examine the TEUs. They were quick to condemn the long out-of-date foodstuffs which included 33,000 boxes of barley water, 1,522 boxes of wafer biscuits and 420 cases of cocktail juice.
The customs pound held many other containers, not all of which were filled with food but it appears that the militants raided some of them as their supplies ran low.
During the fighting to take Ganfouda last year, there was international concern that civilians trapped in the district were starving. When the LNA finally overran the district they produced pictures of what they claimed were rooms in houses piled high with food.
