Tripoli, 1 June 2016:
General Khalifa Hafter has arrived on a surprise visit to Jordan, apparently at the invitation of . . .[restrict]King Abdullah. He has reportedly been invited for the centenary celebrations of the 1916 Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire. A massive military parade will mark the event tomorrow, Thursday.
This is his third visit to Jordan in just over a year.
Last August, while in Amman, Hafter signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces on Jordanian training for the Libyan army. There were also talks about training when Hafter was in the Jordanian capital in April 2015.
So far, however, nothing has come of it. [/restrict]
