The Economy Ministry approves requests from more foreign companies

The Ministry of Economy and Trade announced today that its minister approved 52 decisions regarding foreign company branches and authorized representative offices.

It said this reflects the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve the business environment and support investment.

These decisions, the Ministry added, encompass measures to open new branches, extend and renew existing ones, and establish or extend representative offices, alongside the adoption of regulatory amendments in accordance with applicable legislation.

The Ministry said these decisions reflect growing confidence in the Libyan market and the promising opportunities it offers for international partnerships and investments.

The companies and entities involved include companies from Turkey, Egypt, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, China, Tunisia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and others.

The decisions cover a diverse range of economically strategic activities, including oil and gas services, drilling and oilfield operations, contracting, construction, engineering, and infrastructure. They also extend to aviation, transport, and logistics; technical consultancy; water treatment and environmental solutions; industry, trade, and investment; as well as technology-driven activities and specialized services that contribute to development efforts and the advancement of the national economy.

These decisions, the Ministry said, underscore its commitment to regulating the activities of foreign companies and representative offices within established legal frameworks. This approach fosters transparency, facilitates the transfer of expertise and modern technology, opens broader horizons for economic and investment cooperation, and supports the drive toward sustainable development and economic growth.

The Ministry said it continues to implement its vision of improving the business climate, fostering an attractive investment environment, and strengthening economic partnerships—thereby serving development goals and enhancing Libya’s standing as a promising destination for investment and economic cooperation.

e-registration for foreign companies from August 2026
It will be recalled that the ministry announced in July that starting from August this year, it will be launching an e-website for the registration of foreign companies. This step, it said, aims to simplify procedures, reduce processing times, enhance transparency, and provide a unified electronic window for foreign investors and companies to enter the Libyan market.

This initiative is part of the government's programme to improve the business environment, digitally transform economic services, and create a more attractive climate for investment and international partnerships.

Follow up on US State Department’s Investment Climate Report on Libya
It will also be recalled that a meeting of the Tripoli Libyan government team tasked with following up on the US State Department’s Investment Climate Report was held in Tripoli on 13 April this year, pursuant to Prime Minister’s Resolution No. (593) of 2025.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance the attraction of foreign investment, expand economic partnerships, and work towards creating a more competitive and attractive investment environment, thereby contributing to supporting the economic development process.
