Benghazi, 27 May 2016:
Widespread reports on social media that Benghazi’s Benina Airport will reopen on 18 May are untrue, . . .[restrict]the airport’s director, Usama Al-Mansour, has told the Libya Herald. No date has yet been set.
The airport terminal has been repaired and the airport is used for VIP flights as well by the Libyan air force which shares the runway and other facilities.
However, with the city still not completely cleared of militants who are still operating in Gwarsha and Sabri, the safety of flights cannot be guaranteed nor the possibility of an attack on the airport dismissed. [/restrict]
