Benghazi, 10 March 2016:

While war planes tonight bombed remaining insurgent positions in Benghazi, the search is on for further . . .[restrict]mass graves near a key area retaken by the army last week.

Government planes attacked terrorists in Gwarsha and Sabri with one massive explosion in Gwarsha. In response rockets have been fired apparently at random striking Buhdeima, Tabalino and close to Rahabah. It is not yet clear if any casualties were caused. In the last two days of fighting, three soldiers have died.

The initial momentum of the army’s assault which saw the terrorists lose Leithi, Hawari and their main supply port at Mreisa, has slowed. A source close to the army has said that IS, Ansar Al-Sharia and their allies are now effectiely cut off from resupply and reinforcements.

Meanwhile, Libyan Red Crescent workers are  searching for further mass graves in Hawari near the former Rafallah Saiti camp which was a major IS command post.  So far two such burials have been found. Yesterday, in a four-hour operation, nine badly-decomposed bodies were exhumed from open ground near the camp and taken away for forensic examination. The suspicion is that the victims were prisoners who were executed summarily. [/restrict]
