Tripoli 24 February 2016:
The Special Deterrence Force (Rada) in Tripoli claims that it has arrested the man chosen by . . .[restrict]the so-called Islamic State to be its new “emir” of Sabratha. A Libyan and named as Mohamed Saad Tajouri but nicknamed Abu Sulaiman, he was seized at his farm in Tripoli’s eastern suburb of Tajoura, having just arrived from Sirte.
Also arrested with him was his assistant, Salem Amaari, nicknamed Abu Zaied, and another IS official, Ahmed Akhim Al-Kamani , nicknamed Abu Hamza Tajouri. The latter was taking them to Sabratha.
Rada said it stormed the farm where the three were hiding. It is believed it was tipped off.
It also said that the were on their way to Sabratha, having been appointed by the IS leadership in Sirte.
It is unclear what has happened to the previous “emir” (“governor”or “prince”) – whether he was killed in last week’s US raid in Sabratha. IS has made no announcement. [/restrict]
