Tripoli, 3 November 2015:
The continuing GNC has damned UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for keeping Bernardino Leon as UNSMIL chief . . .[restrict]and warned that his continued presence would wreck what is left of the Political Dialogue.
“We are surprised at the Secretary-General’s support for Bernardino Leon to continue in his position,” said the GNC’s political committee last night, “despite the negative outcome of both the draft Accord and the so-called Government of National Accord”.
It warned that the GNC would hold Secretary-General Ban directly responsible for the total collapse of the Dialogue if he continued to back Leon and his insistence that the “defective” proposals be signed.
It pointed out that Leon’s successor, German diplomat Martin Kobler had already been appointed but while Leon continued in office, his presence was frustrating the Dialogue. [/restrict]
