Tripoli, 1 October 2015:
The Libyan embassy to the Vatican has announced that it has stopped work because it . . .[restrict]has had no funding from the foreign ministry since early 2015.
In a statement, the embassy said that the foreign ministry had been informed of the problem several times and that it had promised not only to the Libyan Vatican embassy but other missions worldwide that funds would be sent. The president of the House of Representatives had also been informed, it added, but nothing has been received.
As a result, the ambassador, Mustafa Rugibani, said he had been forced to take the decision to suspend the work of embassy including that of local employees. The problem was not just affecting Libya’s Vatican embassy but Libyan embassies around the world, especially in Europe, the statement noted. However, relations with the Vatican still continued, it pointed out. [/restrict]
