There has been another assassination in the politically divided town of Ajdabiya. A local militiaman, named . . .[restrict]as Nasser Al-Rugaieh, was shot dead today. A member of the locally prominent Magharba tribe, he is said to have been killed by Ajdabiya Revolutionaries Shoura Council (ARSC). It is allegedly pro-Al Qaeda, although there are reports that it is developing sympathies with the Islamic State.
The reasons for Rugaieh’s murder are not known although he was reported to have been involved recently in fighting against the local Shuhada Al-Jazeera brigade, also on the Islamist side of the town’s divide. Last month, following clashes between Libyan National Army forces and those from the ARSC, both agreed to pull out of the town centre.
Last week, a local civil society activist, Belgasem Kaseh Al-Zwai, was assassinated in Ajdabiya after returning from maghreb (evening) prayers. The reason for the killing is unknown
It is also reported that gunmn tried to kill local journalist over the weekend. Usama Al Jarred was reportedly driving along one of the town’s main roads when a vehicle pulled up along side and a gunman started firing at him. [/restrict]
