Tripoli, 17 September 2015:
A local civil society activist was assassinated in Ajdabiya last night. Belgasem Kaseh Al-Zwai was . . .[restrict]shot in front of his house after returning from maghreb (evening) prayers. His assailant and the reason for the killing are unknown.
There are deep and overlapping divisions in Ajdabiya between the Zwai and the Tebu communities, between Islamists and non-Islamists and between supporters of Cyrenaica federalist Ibrahim Jedhran and those backing Khalifa Hafter, the commander general of the Libya armed forces.
The killing could relate to any one or combination of these. It could also be the result of a family feud. The victim’s brother was Colonel Abdul Majid Kaseh Al-Zwai, an air force commander who was murdered in Ajdabiya last November. His killers have never been found. [/restrict]
