Benghazi, 10 July 2015:
Despite the fighting still raging in some distritcs, Benghazi municipality has been getting on with the . . .[restrict]day-to-day business of running the city.
Municipal inspectors have just completed a three-day standards and hygiene blitz of traders and food manufacturers, particularly bakers.
They uncovered out-of-date flour, filthy kitchen premises and unhygienic preparation areas, including bugs floating in food mixes and crawling on pastries. The municipality has not given details of the premises that failed the inspections. Investigators also cracked down on street hawkers selling foodstuffs in unhealthy conditions.
This latest sally by the city’s inspectors comes after raids earlier in the year that closed down illegal shops. [/restrict]
