Tripoli, 28 June 2015:
Tripoli port workers walked out today after five colleagues were seized when gunmen burst into the . . .[restrict]administrative building
Members of the Rada (Deterrence) force run by Abdul Rauf Kara demanded to see the identity cards of everyone in the offices. Five of the staff, whom a source told the Libya Herald, were from Warshefana and “other tribes” in the Jebel Nafusa, were taken away by the gunmen.
Angry colleagues then stopped work in protest at the detentions. According to the source, the men were probably taken to be swapped for Libya Dawn members held by forces fighting for the Libyan army in the west.
It was not clear this evening if administrative staff intend to continue their walkout and what effect it will have on the port’s operations. There are currently five vessels in the harbour with another four standing offshore waiting for berths. [/restrict]
