Benghazi, 18 June 2015:
A would-be suicide bomber was killed in Leithi last night, but not in the way he . . .[restrict]or those directing him planned. Driving a heavily steel-plated vehicle, he approached a checkpoint evidently intending to blow it and himself up. However, according Saiqa Special Forces, their soldiers who could see that this was no ordinary driver, fired a rocket propelled grenade at him, killing him instantly.
Fortunately the RPF did not detonate the arsenal of 150 kilos explosives contained in the vehicle. These were later defused.
Why the suicide bomber and his Islamic State colleagues thought that such a clearly threatening vehicle would not be attacked before it arrived at its target is not clear.
