Tripoli, 31 May 2015:
Locals intervened when a gang tried to raid a Tripoli shop today and they captured one . . .[restrict]of the would-be robbers.
The unidentified man was seized on Saturay when a group tried to rob a shop in Gasr Ben Gashir near the capital’s destroyed international airport. He was later handed over to the police. During his interrogation he allegedly admitted to a string of crimes including robbery, car theft, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
It is reported that an examination of his mobile phone revealed the pictures of six kidnap victims, whom police have not named. In each case, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of LD 3,000.
In an unusual move, the police today tied up the alleged robber in the back of a pickup truck and drove him around Gasr Ben Gashir, so the locals could see him.
