Tobruk, 26 April 2015:
The municipality of Tobruk is moving to modernise its waste management system with the installation . . .[restrict]of underground garbage bins in the town centre.
According to Tobruk General Company for Cleaning Services Chief Omar Tayeb Sharif Said, work is already underway to create spaces underground for the bins, which will the first of their kind in Libya.
It is expected that the new system will not only provide a cleaner and more pleasant environment above the ground, but will lead to an overall reduction in collection costs and environmental pollution.
Although the installations will require up-front investment, the European, Chinese and Canadian cities that have transitioned to underground bins have seen up to a 30 percent reduction in operational costs.
