Beida, 25 April 2015:
Thieves have been busy digging up and stealing oil and gas pipeline, one section of which . . .[restrict]was buried two metres deep.
The thefts have reportedly caused serious damage to currently unused lines running between the Al-Nakhla field near Jalu and Zuetina. The deep-digging robbers have taken lengths of gas piping. Given the risk of explosion, they would have appear to have unbolted connecting flanges.
No such dangers concerned the people who used an acetylene torch to cut through and steal a section of oil pipeline at the U1 pumping station, a safe 40 kilometres away from the nearest Petroleum Facilities Guard post. This theft was discovered this morning. “The thief stole the pipe from non-operational line from the Al-Nakhla filed,” an engineer told the Libya Herald, adding, “he probably he wanted it for his house and personal use”.
