Militants yesterday posted a video of the execution of two captured government soldiers in Derna.
The . . .[restrict]Facebook post, which has since been removed, reportedly showed the men being murdered with shots to the head. The victims have been identified as a Col Khalifa Majeed Haroun, whose unit is not given, and Muneer Ali Abdulqadar, a member of the Shahat Security Directorate.
The video carries none of the branding typical of IS recordings of their murders. It is therefore possible that the executions were carried out by IS’s Derna rival, the Abu Saleem Martyrs’ Brigade. Though, last December, both groups joined the town’s Mujahedeen Shoura Council, they are still reportedly frequently at odds.
