Tripoli, 22 March 2015:
The governments of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States have . . .[restrict]strongly condemned the attacks by the Libyan National Army on Aziziya, Tripoli and the Mitiga airports and by Libya Dawn on Zintan airport, calling on political leaders to “exercise authority” over military and militia leaders and “disavow” any action that does not fall within the framework of the UN-brokered national dialogue process.
The government warned that those who blocked the process and Libya’s democratic transition would be held accountable for their actions by the Libyan people and the international community through the sanctions provided for in UN Security Council Resolution 2174.
Libya’s parties had to reach an agreement on a National Unity Government and arrangements for a ceasefire as quickly as possible, they said, insisting that this type of government would provide the best hope for Libyans to confront the violence and instability caused by the growing presence of terrorist groups within its borders.
UNSMIL Chief Bernadino Leon has also been highly critical of the LNA’s drive towards Tripoli, warning that it could wreck the talks currently underway in Skhirat, Morocco. [/restrict]
