Tripoli, 2 February 2015:
The mayor of Khoms, half way between Tripoli and Misrata, is reported to have been . . .[restrict]kidnapped today by unidentified gunmen. These are said to have gone the Muncipal headquarters and seized him and then driven off. A statement, purportedly from Khoms Municipal Council and civil society institutions in the town has blamed it on an unnamed group from Misrata.
The claims have not been confirmed.
Despite the crisis elsewhere in the country, Khoms has managed to continue operating normally over the past year. There has been no sign of any tensions within the town or with any of its neighbours. For the past couple of years, Khoms has firmly supported Misrata and, more recently, Libya Dawn. [/restrict]
