Tripoli, 22 June 2014:
The elections of mayors for six more of Libya’s new municipalities took place this afternoon at Tripoli’s . . .[restrict]Waddan Hotel.
After swearing-in sessions for all the new councillors, overseen by Local Government Minister Salah Said and the Chairman of the Central Committee of Municipal Council Elections (CCMCE), Otman Gajiji, the six towns’ new mayors were then nominated and elected.
They are:
- Ain Zara: Abdelwahid Balum;
- Al-Saih: Abdulfatah Jalal;
- Janzur: Belaid Aujili;
- Rahibat: Abdulhamid Ali Ashter;
- Rajban: Abubakr Mohamed Abubakr;
- Sbieha: Walid Saber.
Two other new mayors were installed last week at the Local Government Ministry: Mohamed Abdullah Ajaj, Mayor of Qasr Ben Gashir, and Ahmed Mohamed Murtada, Mayor of Obari.
Regarding elections for the new Benghazi mayor, “it was planned to be today,” a CCMCE official told the Libya Herald. “But has been postponed until 26 June.” [/restrict]
