Humanitarian aid in the form of twenty tons of dates is being sent to Sudan and Somalia by . . .[restrict]farmers from Jalu in south of the country.
The shipment of dates is intended to help those affected by severe floods in Sudan and famine in Somalia, according to Libyan news agency LANA. This is the second humanitarian donation sent from the area.
Jalu is one of Libya’s four large oases, and has extensive palm groves. The area is well-known for its donations of dates in times of need. During the revolution farmers sent four or five trucks full of dates to Benghazi courthouse where people were protesting day and night against the Qaddafi regime. [/restrict]
