Tripoli, 18 July 2013:
The Libyan Army has taken delivery of 200 Humvee armoured vehicles, to help secure the . . .[restrict]country’s borders.
The US-made High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (MHMWV), known as Humvees, will be used by Libyan Army border guards. With each armoured vehicle costing in the region of $140,000, the order indicates a serious investment in border security.
The four wheel drive vehicles are reinforced to protect the occupants from small arms fire and light explosives. They are also well-suited to desert driving, making them particularly suitable for monitoring the country’s 4,348 km of land borders.
Should any of the new fleet be stolen, they will be hard to sell on in Libya, as they are apparently the only vehicles of this exact type in the country. [/restrict]
