Tripoli, 22 June 2013:
The new US ambassador to Libya, Deborah Jones, has indicated . . .[restrict]that she is not going to be intimidated is limiting herself to the safety of the US embassy and other diplomatic or well guarded premises and, instead, has been out in Tripoli getting to know Libyans. Having arrived on Wednesday, she was seen yesterday socialising in a fashionable Gargaresh beachside café yesterday.
In the three days since arriving, the newly-appointed ambassador has been similarly busy getting to known people, including attending a reception the same day she arrived at the old British Residence to mark the birthday of the UK’s Queen Elizabeth II, and then on Thursday, after presenting her credentials to the Deputy Head of Congress, Salah Makhzoum, attending a UNHCR event World Refugee Day Libya in the King’s Palace.
