Tripoli, 21 June 2013:

Congress’ Committee on Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has accused the Prime Minister of deliberately sidelining the . . .[restrict]Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry.

In a strongly worded statement, it said that Ali Zeidan had first left the Ministry without a minister and then refused to allow the man approved by Congress, Abdussalam Mohamed Abusada, to function in the job. Abusada himself had complained to Congress “about the Prime Minister preventing him doing do his job”, it said.

The Committee statement claimed that Zeidan was ignoring Abusada and using Deputy Ministry Khaled Warshfani to run the Ministry in collaboration with the Local Government Minister, Abubaker Alhadi.

It had taken up the matter with the Legislative Committee in Congress, it said, and had been assured that what was being done was illegal.

Justice and Construction Congressman Emhemed Muammar Diab, a member of the Committee, told the Libya Herald today that it had contacted the Prime Minister “several times”, demanding to know why he was sidelining Abusada and that it had been given assurances on the issue, but nothing had happened.

Abusada have been cleared by the Integrity Commission, said Diab, so Zeidan he had no right to prevent him doing his job.

He added that the Local Government Minister had phoned Abusada several times asking him to start work because he himself could not run two ministries.

Diab said it was strange why the Prime Minister wanted to keep Abusada away from his post. [/restrict]
