Tripoli, 18 May 2013:
Four large Egyptian trucks reportedly laden with cans of rotten food were seized after they . . .[restrict]had passed into Libya from the Egyptians border with fraudulent papers.
A police source in Tobruk has told the Libya Herald that the drivers of the vehicles, containing food that was unfit for human consumption, presented customs officials with documents stating that their cargos comprised cleaning materials. The duties therefore amounted to only LD 94.
When the trucks were stopped and inspected, the real nature of their cargo was discovered. Tobruk police are alleging that the businessman involved in the shipment was a Libyan. It was not clear this evening if he had also been arrested, along with the drivers of the four trucks.
