Tripoli, 10 April 2013:

A travelling photographic exhibition entitled ‘Libya through the eyes of children’ has been launched by the United Nations children’s fund UNICEF.

The photos were taken by 25 children from across the country, who attended a five-day photography workshop at Tripoli’s Art House. The children took over 2,000 images, 60 of which were selected for the final exhibition.

UNICEF’s country director, Carel De Rooy, told the Libya Herald that digital photography had made this sort of project possible because it kept costs very low, and enabled children to experiment with photography.

The Minister of Social Affairs, Kamila Khamis Al-Mazini, who opened the exhibition, said that children were a priority, especially at this stage of the country’s development. She added that projects such as these allowed children to express themselves and their opinions.

Al-Mazini told the Libya Herald that the launch “was an excellent and successful event” which, she said, “encourages us to work with UNICEF on a larger scale in the future.”

The images will now form a travelling exhibition, to be shown in various locations across the country. [/restrict]
