Benghazi, 7 February 2103:
Four men suspected of smuggling arms to Egypt and arrested in Tobruk yesterday, Wednesday, managed to escape last . . .[restrict]night.
The four, two Libyans, an Egyptian and a Palestinian, were caught with weapons in their vehicle heading towards Egypt. They were then sent under guard to Benghazi for further questioning.
At Sidi Khalifa, just north east of Benghazi, the two vehicles in which they were travelling were reportedly ambushed by men in six other cars. The four prisoners were freed by the gunmen who also took the two vehicles, found this morning in a Benghazi junk yard. The armed guards, however, were unharmed.
It is being suggested by some observers in Benghazi that the alleged smugglers may have paid to get themselves released. [/restrict]
