Tripoli, 7 February 2013:
The General National Congress has formally approved the appointment of a number of ambassadors nominated by the government.
These . . .[restrict]include Salahadin Bashari as Libya’s ambassador in China, Sadiq Mohammed Sadiq in Indonesia, Muftah Tayar in Mexico and former Telecommunications Minister Anwar Fitouri in Malaysia.
The ambassadors were among 34 men nominated by Prime Minister Ali Zeidan at the end of last year. Some have already taken up their posts although still awaiting confirmation from Congress.
The system of appointing ambassadors was sorted out by the government and Congress in December after a disagreement over whose role it was. Under a compromise, the government now proposes names and Congress then approves or disapproves of them. [/restrict]
