Tripoli, 1 November:
A traffic policeman was reported shot in Martyrs’ Square in Tripoli late Wednesday evening by a member of the Suq . . .[restrict]Al- Juma Martyrs’ battalion. He later died. A second policeman was also wounded.
It is claimed that assailant was intoxicated and has started shooting randomly. He was subsequently arrested by soldiers from the Chiefs of Staff’s office although it is said that some members of the battalion tried to protect him.
Both victims were taken to Istiqlal Hospital, formerly called Alkhadra Hospital. The wounded policeman was then transferred to Abu-salim Accident Hospital where he is now under security protection.
