Kufra is reported quiet again after clashes between Tebus and members of the dominant Zway tribe in . . .[restrict]which one man died.
On Friday, a elderly Tebu man was killed in a Zway area of town. According to Tebu sources in Kufra, the man, named as Tukri Kelabu, had gone to a supermarket with friends. He remained outside while they went inside. At that point a car reportedly drove past and shots were fired at Kelabu from it, killing him. Another report says that while in the street he became involved in an agrument with a Zway man who then shot him.
The next day, angry young Tebus shot at two Zway men, a father and his son. Neither was killed. The father was wounded in his arm but the son is said to have a head injury; the nature has not been disclosed.
Since then government forces have re-imposed order although an uneasy calm reportedly reigns with residents fearing further violence. However, in conformity with the ceasefire agreement signed by Tebu and Zway leaders at the beginning of August when they agreed that anyone involved in violence would be handed over by his community to the army, the Zway have said they will deliver the suspected killer to the authorities.
He has been named as Ali Mohammed Mansour Bu-Ameira. So far he has not been arrested.
Meanwhile, it been announced in Kufra that the town’s director of health services met on Sunday with the head of Ajdabiya’s medical treatment committee to discuss documentation and payment problems relating to some 71 patients from Kufra who have been sent for treatment in Ajdabiya. [/restrict]
