Derna, 6 October:
An army officer involved in re-enforcing the army’s presence in Derna escaped death yesterday, Friday, when a grenade was . . .[restrict]thrown at his car.  The explosion, which was heard across town, damaged the vehicle and blew out windows of adjacent buildings but Major Mohamed Ali Tashni was unhurt. No one else was injured either.
Major Tshani is one of a number of  officers assigned to re-establish army control over Derna. Some local residents claimed that the blast was the work of Islamic militants based in the area.
